Upcoming bokashi and EM events -- April-May 2015.

Details of each event are shown below the following summary list:


Saturday 4/18 Volunteer Day (Youth Service Day) 2-4 pm
at St. Mary's Urban Farm
521 W 126th St, Harlem NY
Kids will participate in various garden activities, as part of the 2015 Garden Kickoff, including bokashi and EM activities.

Sunday 4/19 Bokashi Workday 1-4 pm
at El Sol Brillante 12th St between Ave A & B (middle of the block, south side of the street) and Children's Garden (12th St & Ave B, southwest corner).
We'll be going back and forth between the two gardens treating, fermenting food waste (FFW), trenching FFW, feeding earthworms, and/or making bokashi.

Sunday 4/19 Sunset Bokashi Making Workshop 5-7:30 pm
at Smiling Hogshead Ranch
25-30 Skillman Ave (by Pearson Pl), Long Island City, NY
We'll be making bokashi using cacao husks, the waste from a nearby chocolate factory.

Wednesday 4/22 Bokashi Workday 10:30 am - 12 noon
at El Sol Brillante 12th St between Ave A & B (middle of the block, south side of the street) and Children's Garden (12th St & Ave B, southwest corner).

Tuesday 5/5 Bokashi Presentation 7-9 pm
at Sustainable Jersey City's Monthly Meeting: Eat, Meet, Talk!
at Jersey City City Hall

This meeting will be all about bokashi with a slide show presentation.

Wednesday 5/6 Bokashi & EM Get Together 7-9 pm
at the 14th Street Y
344 E 14th St, Room 201 (west off 1st Ave, south side of street)

We will make a fermented fruit drink using EM (Effective Microorganisms).
The Activated EM we made during our last get together using ProEM-1 (the EM made for human consumption) will be ready to try.
If you have some fermented foods or drinks you would like to bring to share, please let us know. You can also bring snacks and drinks if you like.

Sunday 5/24 The Spring Mudball Ball 3-7 pm
The Masters of Succession Collective (MoScollective.net) presents the Ephemeral Piazza & the Mudball Ball
at El Jardin del Paraiso Community Garden
4th Street, entrance also on 5th Street, between Ave C & D (middle of the block, northside of the street)
There will be many kinds of various activities, including making mudballs using bokashi, activated EM and dirt. After the mudballs are made and let to ferment (for about 2 weeks), they will be ready to be thrown into the Hudson River off of Governors Island during Figment NYC on June 7, 2015.
